This is a basic recommended itinerary to get the best of our culture, wildlife and diving experiences. This itinerary can be customised to accommodate non-divers, shorter five day options or longer options with add on trips to destinations such as Cape Town or Kruger National Park. Local add ons include open water shark diving, wreck diving to explore Durban’s “Ghost Fleet” and a range of options to enjoy a variety of additional wildlife and cultural tours.

Day 1: Arrive King Shaka International Airport, Meet & greet at Underwater World where you will be fitted with your dive gear (if required) from there, a short drive to Cutty Sark Hotel in Scottburgh for your first night.
Day 2: Two morning dives on the southern reefs of Aliwal Shoal, with Scuba Xcursions. This area was rated by Jacques Costeau as one of the top 10 dive sites in the world. Expect to see raggies and humpback whales from May to October and tiger and hammerhead sharks in summer. Afternoon transfer for uMkomaas followed by a Zulu Cultural Tour. Overnight Blue Ocean Dive Centre for the next two nights
Day 3 & 4: Three morning dives on the northern reefs of Aliwal Shoal. Expect to see abundant game and reef fish, dolphins and turtles. You can expect to see Tiger Sharks in Summer months and Whales and Raggies in winter months.
After your last dive on day four we depart for Durban where you will meet a cultural guide at the GreenHub. The afternoon will be spent exploring some of Durban’s local attractions including Gandhi’s Settlement and the Ohlange Institute where Nelson Mandela cast his first vote in democratic South Africa. Overnight at Ezwini Lodge on the scenic shores of eNanda Dam.
Day 5: After breakfast you will enjoy some more exploring of Durban’s local attractions. Depart after lunch for the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, South Africa’s first World Heritage site. Enjoy a sunset cruise on the Estuary and get a chance to see Hippos and Crocodiles. This area has a range of other local options to explore or shop for curios and gifts. Overnight at St Lucia Eco-Lodge
Day 6: Early morning option for a game drive on the Eastern Shores with a chance to see Rhino, Buffalo and incredible bird life and scenery. This area was declared a World Heritage Site based on it’s superlative natural beauty and wide range of wetlands, grasslands and dune forests. Late morning departure to Sodwana Bay on the northern section of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Afternoon at leisure. Overnight at Mseni Lodge
Day 7 & 8: Four early morning dives exploring Sodwana Bay’s many Reefs with Amoray Diving. This area supports over 1 200 fish species, compared to the Great Barrier Reef’s 1 800, but in only one tenth of the area. excellent year round conditions and world class operators, this is one of Africa’s most sought after dive locations. Afternoons are spent at leisure on the beach with options for activities ranging from horse riding, sundowners at Lake Sibaya, seasonal turtle nesting tours or simply enjoy a good book on the beach. Overnight at Mseni Lodge
Day 9: After a last early morning dive off Sodwana Bay and breakfast, you will depart for Hluhluwe iMfolozi Game Reserve, just over an hours drive away. This is one of Africa’s oldest protected areas and the traditional hunting grounds of the legendary King Shaka. Overnight at uBizane Safari Lodge.
Day 10: Options for a morning game drive or guided walk in the park and a chance to see lions, rhino, elephants, leopard, zebra, giraffe and a range of other wildlife and birds. Late morning departure for King Shaka International Airport for afternoon departure flight.
